I’ve got 5 shades from the collection, which are AUBERGINE QUEEN, MIA SANGRIA, VIVID ORCHID, VERY MULBERRY and TRUSTY RUSTY. OMG! I really really really would like to appreciate Sugar team on naming these shades, it is seriously not easy to name every single lipstick with such creative and rhyming names. Thumbs up for that.
Packaging, just the same, nothing’s changed. A square shaped clear mini tube with a matte black cap and a long U-shaped doe-foot applicator, and there’s the shade name mentioned on the outer cover as well as on the bottom of the liquid lipstick.
I’ve had enough of the nudes and pinks and browns from this collection now, and I wanted to try some different bold shades and so I went for these shades. Here’s what actually the shades look like –
- 21 AUBERGINE QUEEN – is a brown toned blackened burgundy shade. I really wish there were some purple tones in it to really do justice to the name.
- 22 MIA SANGRIA – is a purple based pink shade, a really cool toned shade but goes well on any kind of skin tone.
- 24 VIVID ORCHID – is a really bright true orchid shade.
- 25 VERY MULBERRY – is a deep dark berry/plum-ey shade.
- 28 TRUSTY RUSTY – is a rusty orange-toned red shade.
These SUGAR SMUDGE ME NOT LIQUID LIPSTICKS have a very thin liquid consistency to them and they’ve got a light-weight formula. Some of them have runny liquid consistency, while some of them have a bit thick creamy consistency. They apply very smoothly and dry out to a dead matte finish within few seconds of application. They have great pigmentation and they go opaque in just one single swipe or one coat. They do take time to dry down, like a minute or so. And surprisingly they are not at all patchy as the first release ones. And moreover they do not crumble up on the lips at all.
Some of the darker shades do leave a stain on the lips. I haven’t noticed any drastic improvement in the formula, it is the same – after few hours of wear time, they really feel dry and also they enhance the fine lip lines. But I totally love these. You really need a good oil based lip balm or infact a good light oil to prep the lips first before application of these liquid lipsticks, in that way you make yourself comfortable in wearing them. I make sure I do the same with these, I had trouble wearing them alone as they dry up my lips fast. I tried both ways – prepping and without prepping my lips, and my lips felt better when moisturized with a good oil.
These lipsticks did stay for a good 8-10 hour period, with very little snacking in between. If you’re someone who’s gonna go for a dinner date and have heavy oily meals, then probably these lipstick wouldn’t last long, it starts to melt and come off the lips.
Vivid Orchid is my favorite shade from this range.
And to remove these lipsticks, only oil-based makeup remover works. I tried removing with normal micellar water, but nope it didn’t work, the lipsticks just stayed intact. And I tried olive oil thinking that it would breakdown the formula and would be easier to remove, but nothing worked. Finally I used my Garnier Oil based micellar water, only then it came off completely and it was an effortless job using it.
Overall, I’m very much impressed with the new shades Sugar has introduced, and I’d love to try out rest of the shades as well. For someone who loves to try some different shades of lipsticks rather than the regular nudes and pinks, then I’d recommend them to try these shades.
Did you try these new shades from SUGAR SMUDGE ME NOT LIQUID LIPSTICKS?? Lemme know which is your favorite shade?
