Packaging, I really expected something new from Sugar when I heard about the Metallic lipsticks. Nothing has really changed, everything is the same – the same old outer cardboard case with the abstract theme and shade name mentioned, and the actual lipstick is a clear square tube with a black lid. The lipstick comes with a U-shaped doe-foot applicator, which is kind of okay-ish, its quite easy to apply. But sometimes its hard to really get that sharp edges with that applicator. Anyways, I’m okay with the packaging and stuff, very convenient to carry it around.
Talking about the lipsticks, lemme tell you guys, right from a week or two back I have been falling for metallic lipsticks and Sugar Cosmetics launched these just in the right time! I was literally stunned by the shades Sugar has introduced, OMG! all the shades are so gorgeous and they would complement any skin tone very easily. The lipsticks have a creamy metallic formula which glides on the lips very smoothly without any tugging. They have a one swipe opaque pigmentation. They are not extremely metallic, these dry down to a semi metallic finish. They give a beautiful metallic sheen to the lips. These lipsticks do take their own time(about a minute or two) to dry down completely, and once they settle down they are absolutely transfer-proof and smudge-proof. They are not at all patchy, except for the Amethyst Twist shade which is very little patchy which can anyways be covered up with another coat of the lipstick before it dries up.
Lemme caution you one thing before applying these lipsticks – do apply a layer of good lip oil or any face oil to hydrate and prep your lips. I tried applying these lipsticks from the day I received them in all possible ways – on bare lips, after good exfoliation and applying lip-balm, and nothing really worked for me. The lipstick was just too drying on my lips and got crumbled, and when I press my lips together they get tacky and stuff. I thought these were a disaster, but then I finally tried oils. I’m not a fan of applying oils to my lips, I mean we hardly use them to moisturize our lips. But miraculously only this oil trick worked for me. I apply my 24k gold infused oil to my lips and let it sit for 2-3 mins (or it is better to prep your lips even before you start with the foundation routine and stuff, so that by the time you finish doing your makeup you’ll be ready for lipstick application) and then apply my Metallic lipstick. And bamm! I’m so in love with these lippies ever since then. I didn’t face this issue with the previous Matte collection, I just had to prep my lips with a lipbalm and go with the lipstick.
All that aside, these lipstick shades are what makes this collection a bomb. Such beautiful shades which suit any person with any skin tone. It just gives a lustrous metallic finish to the lips that stay all day. Being on the matte side, these lipsticks do dry out the lips a little ending in enhancing the lip lines. These lipsticks are very long lasting and they absolutely stay intact except for the inner portion of the lips which comes off after a good meal or so. I just wanna mention one thing here – if you’re aware of the Ciate London Glitter flip! lipsticks which shows up glitter when you press your lips together, I’ve observed a similar mechanism with these metallic lipsticks as well, as they show up much metallic sheen when the lips are pressed together. That seemed to be much fun! I dunno if anyone else noticed it, but I wanna let you guys know, if you buy these lipsticks do try this fun part and lemme know if it worked for you.
Staying power, these lipsticks stayed on my lips for 10+ hours. Only the inner rim portion just came off, rest everything was just intact and good as freshly applied. Coming to the removal of these lipsticks – again only oils do the work, I use my coconut oil to remove the lipstick which made the work easy and simple. I did try with normal makeup remover and also the Micellar water which did not remove the lipsticks completely. So better use any oil directly first and then double cleanse with your micellar water.
Here are the swatches of all 6 shades –
And here’s me wearing Amethyst Twist, my absolute favorite shade –
Overall, I’m very much impressed and totally obsessed with these new Metallic shades from the Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipsticks range. My favorite has to be the Amethyst Twist which a bold blackened plum shade. The shades are quite basic (keeping in mind the ‘metallic’ thingy) yet being bold. If you wanna go for simple, then Brass Class and Pink Clink would be best. If you’re looking for some bold shades then the rest of the shades would be your picks. There are not many nudes in the collection, except for two shades that can be worn daily. I’m sure Sugar would be coming up with more shades in no time sooner.
Did you try the new Sugar Smudge Me Not Metallic Liquid Lipsticks?? Which is your favorite shade? Do lemme know……
