Polyphenols in Propolis…nope this is not any tongue twister babe! If you’re a skincare junkie(a little or more like me), you’d probably heard of this but not really incorporated it in your skincare much. Well, neither did I, until when I took Kbeauty seriously and realized how important each ingredient is and what proportions to use to balance out the skin issues. If you’re still unfamiliar with the Polyphenols in Propolis, Polyphenol is a powerful antioxidant when used in skincare, speeds up skin cell reproduction, healing, moisture retention. This Propolis Ampoule was kindly sent by BeautybarnIndia (I dunno how many ever times I’ve praised them) for review purpose, and here I am – after a full of more than two months use.
WHAT AM I? The Propolis Extract obtained from the Auvergene volcanic region in France contains two Polyphenols – Catechin and Quercetin. They are good antioxidants, as well as effective ingredients for the nourishment of the skin. In addition, Houtuynia Cordata Extract and Zinc PCA help soothe the skin and has antibacterial properties. Moisturizing agents such as Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, and Betaine effectively provides moisture to the skin.
WHY ME? Propolis is a compound of the Greek word Pro (before), and Polis (city), mainly found in the entrance of a honeycomb. A bee collects a protective substance that secretes a substance to prevent the contamination of the injured area. It is composed of resin, beeswax, saliva, and secretion of bees containing various enzymes. Propolis is a proven source of various acne skin improvement. It is also known for reducing skin inflammation, reducing flushed skin and pigmentation, and increasing skin moisture content.
- For acne prone, sensitive skin
- Helps improve acne
- Strong anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation, skin immunity enhancement
- Use of effective capsicum extract (Houttuynia Cordata Extract) to calm the acne and soothe the skin
- Increases skin moisture content
- It is free of sulfates, essential oils, fragrances, colorants and silicone
RECOMMENDED TO : All skin types, especially acne prone skin people.
PRICE : $32 for a 30ml product. In India, this Propolis ampoule costs about INR 2250/-.
Packaging, the ampoule originally comes in a metallic yellow outer carton box with silver fonts embossed on it. All the details about the product is mentioned on the box. And the Propolis comes in a see-through amber colored glass dropper bottle. Everything is safe and securely packed, should appreciate Wishtrend to have such sturdy packaged products.
I was only wondering why was one of the main ingredient, Zinc PCA, an anti-aging ingredient known to treat oily/acne prone skin, normalize the sebum production and protect the skin from the acne-causing bacteria, be the second last ingredient. And even though the product name itself being Propolis ampoule, I think Houttuynia Cordata Extract has taken the hero’s place with its highest proportion of 59%. This is a great detoxing agent that helps to promote healthy skin and heal acne, eczema and psoriasis. When incorporated in skin care products, Houttuynia Cordata extract exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial activity.
HOW TO USE : After cleansing, prep your skin with toner and apply an appropriate amount evenly to the face.
This ampoule has a runny liquid-serum(or an oil) like consistency, spreads easily on the skin and faintly has any scent to it. The texture of the ampoule is also very light, quite comfortable on the skin that quickly absorbs leaving behind a dewy look to the face.
I incorporated this serum in my morning and night routines, to give this a really thorough test. I basically apply this after cleansing with my By Wishtrend Acid Duo 2% Mild Gel Cleanser and toning my skin with The Face Shop Chia Seed Hydrating toner. I typically take about half a pump to hydrate my entire face. In this hot weathers, my combination skin cannot be taking more of anything. And I just leave it, as simple as cleanse-tone-ampoule! Sometimes a sleeping mask before I hit my bed. Of course finish off my skincare with a sunscreen during the day time. If it were in winters, I’m sure I’ll use one full pump of this.
My skin feels so much hydrated and the moisturization level is so on point with this ampoule. That’s the reason I simply go with this thing alone. It takes few minutes for the ampoule to actually seep through the skin deep and then makes it soft and plump. It did balance out my skin, and I’m surprised to see my skin heal fast from fresh zits or pimples. This ampoule did take so much time to show up what’s it actually doing to the skin, but then I was just consistent with it.
Kbeauty skincare has obviously changed my skincare game, and now I hardly breakout or have to worry about my dull/flat skin. By which I’d also like to tell that I cannot talk about this ampoule’s performance on acne and all. I see this as a great moisturizer and a skin healer. For the 2-3 pimples that pop up occasionally, I’ve seen them heal quickly without leaving any marks. It does not work much on my pores, I found mine being in the same size and shape as long I’m using this. And also if you’ve dark spots I think it’s gonna take long to fade them away, at least for me I didn’t notice much difference.
Overall, I’d recommend this Propolis ampoule if you have dry skin issues, aging skin or are simply seeking to start using anti-aging products in your skincare that have antioxidants, then this is an ingredient you must try! Free from oils, sulphates, colorants, silicones and fragrances, this suits all skin types especially sensitive and skin people will love this for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial properties.
