This was the most requested review some people asked me, after seeing me use this in my weekly skincare routine. This Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution has been a buzz from quite some time now. Although I knew about this blood solution before, it was only through the beauty-bloggers and skincare experts whose reviews got me buy my first bottle. And then, this bad boy has been my favorite ever since I bought it, this is one of my best purchases I’ve made for my skin. After giving this a thorough test, here’s what I think about this miracle peeling solution, which still most people do not know about.

With 30% Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic/Lactic/Tartaric/Citric), 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid (Salicylic Acid), Hyaluronic Acid Crosspolymer, Vitamin B5, Black Carrot and Tasmanian Pepperberry

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) exfoliate the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxy acids (BHA) also exfoliate the skin with an extended function to help clear pore congestion. This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines with continued use.

  • pH between 3.5 – 3.7
  • alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free and gluten-free
  • cruelty-free and vegan

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry – derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. This formula is further supported with a crosspolymer form of Hyaluronic Acid for comfort, Vitamin B5 to assist healing and black carrot as an antioxidant.

PRICE : $12.30 (approx around 900 rupees) for a 30ml product.

Packaging, this peeling solution comes in a frosted transparent glass bottle with a red blood solution in it. Of course, it has a outer cardboard box which has got most details on it. But it is always better to refer the official website for clear specifications and ingredients list. This bottle of blood comes with a dropper for convenient application, although applying this blood solution freaked me for the first few uses. And trust me, I did not try a patch test before using it on my face, I straight away went for a full face application.

  • Clean face and wait for skin to dry. Do not use on wet skin.
  • Apply evenly across face and neck using fingertips, avoiding the eye area.
  • Leave on for no more than 10 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  • Avoid the eye contour and contact with eyes both during application and rinse off.
  • This low-viscosity solution is intended to be used as a masque. Do not leave on for longer than 10 minutes.

AHA and BHA, commonly known as Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid, are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits. They help peel away the surface of your skin so that new, more evenly pigmented skin cells may generate and take their place. This is what exactly this potion does. This blood solution intensely exfoliates the skin, removes all the debris and gunk out of the skin and makes it fresh and soft. Being super potent, this chemical peel is highly suggested not to use on daily basis. Just twice a week is what’s suggested by the brand too. And it’s always recommended to do a patch test before you try acids on face directly, especially people with sensitive skin or people who have active acne.

The pH of this formula is approximately 3.6. Glycolic Acid, the primary AHA used in the formula, has a pKa of 3.6 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximizing effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

My Experience : I use this solution right when I know my skin needs a detox, when I see this weird dry flakes on my cheeks and my t-zone being extra oily with dirt and gunk. I make sure I thoroughly cleanse my face before applying this peeling solution all over my face, avoiding the eye area. This does smell like the laboratory acids, yes. And trust me, I haven’t done any patch test and went straight up with the application. I mean, how crazy I’m? I dunno, but I’d never do patch tests when they’re supposed to be done though. Anyways, back to the topic, in just two minutes this mask begins to tingle with a warm sensation added. For me, it’s not that high level, it is quite tolerable; hoping for it to just work on me. As suggested, I left it for a good 10 minutes and then rinsed off the mask with cold water. And it shows results immediately, like in an instant. It reveals a brighter, smoother and baby soft skin. The cold climates always make my skin super dry and flaky, and this peel just exfoliates my skin removing all that dead skin and makes it baby soft. This chemical peel really targets lackluster skin and instantly brings life. I’m on the verge of finishing my first bottle and I don’t give this the sole reason for improving my skin condition but I’d say this definitely helped a little.

This peeling solution makes the skin prep for the next skincare steps. And it would be a great option to mask again with your favorite mask to even more benefit from this exfoliation, or a refreshing sheet mask would be more soothing and skin pampering. This peel is most suggested to be used in the night routines, as it contains AHA’s that increase skin sensitivity which causes sunburns when used in day time and exposed to sun. And it’s always best to use sunscreens before stepping out in the sun to avoid skin damage.

I’m not a skincare expert, but I’ve heard that mixing or using AHA/BHA’s and Vitamin A & C at the same time can be troublesome if you’ve sensitive skin. Because AHA/BHA’s, Retinol(Vitamin A) and Vitamin C, all being acidic ingredients, there’s more risk of exacerbating skin conditions and irritating your skin. It’s always better to use acids on your skin on different days, or alter in your routines according to your skin condition and tolerance.

Overall, totally impressed with this AHA/BHA Peeling Solution and I’m definitely getting more back ups soon. I’d recommend this to everyone, except for people with super sensitive skin and people with severe acne. You might give it a try too, but with a dermat consultation, I’d recommend.
