There’s a lot of misconception around Cleansing Balms, and Double Cleansing Routine – ‘cleansing balms are only for people who wear makeup’, ‘cleansing balms are not meant for oily skin’; I know we still live with such confusions around. Here’s the thing – Cleansing Balms are oil-based deep cleansers, which come in balms, creams and oil forms, that deep-cleanses the pores as the first cleanse step. This has to be carried with a second water-based cleanser to ensure deep cleansed skin. Cleansing balms have also been my favorite these days and I’m totally enjoying trying and experimenting with all new cleansing balms. Recently, I’ve been trying out the Earthy By Ellenza Matcha Green Tea Cleansing Balm, which has the goodness of Matcha Green Tea, Neem and Basil oils, and honestly loving it. Let’s see what this new Cleansing balm has for us, and why do I love it.

Suitable for all skin types, especially people with oily and acne-prone skin, the potent ingredients in this creamy Matcha Green Tea Cleansing Balm include Neem, Sweet Almond oil, Safflower oil, Matcha Green tea, and Baja Cactus extract that deep cleanses and gets off the dirt from the pores. Packaging, this cleansing balm comes in a simple dark brown plastic jar with a gold screw lid. All the information about the product is mentioned on the label itself. It does come with an extra secure white lid, just in case the balm doesn’t spill out. The packaging is pretty basic I’d say, I mean for the price point I wish the packaging could have been better.

Talking about the formula and texture, this cleansing balm has a velvety, balmy formula which melts down right in contact with the skin. Once working it out on the skin and when in it comes in contact with water it emulsifies beautifully and completely melts down all the dirt, impurities and makeup, and cleanses the skin thoroughly. And a little balm goes a long way. If you’re using it as a makeup remover, it requires a little more than usual as it has a lot of things to break down and work its magic, but if you’re using it as a first cleanser in your double-cleanse routine then a tiny amount would do good.

I use this mostly in my night routines, and especially the cold winters were where I used it fully. I take a teeny bit and warm the balm with my palms and massage it thoroughly on my face and neck. Once I feel a good massage, I splash a little water on my face and within no time the oils emulsify into a milky lotion and lather a bit, which I then rinse it off completely. I tried it on a makeup face too, and it did a pretty good job in removing the makeup. It effectively removes most of the heavy makeup, liquid lipsticks and even eye makeup (but not the waterproof mascara fully, like 100%; I’d say it removes about 90% of it and there’s still traces on the lashes). It is a non-comedogenic cleansing balm; did not clog my pores. It did not cause any skin irritation, and does not sting the eyes. I personally did not face any issues with it. If you’re looking for new brands in cleansing balms, you should definitely give this a shot. Or if you’re looking for Indian brand products with simple ingredients, then this is it.
